Stormwater Bioswales and Rain Gardens

Bioswales and rain gardens are landscape features that use native plants to absorb water, manage runoff from large storms, and prevent soil erosion. Bioswales are more complex than Rain Gardens, including deep drainage systems and layers of engineered soil and gravel, and are used to capture large amounts of runoff; for example, from streets and surface parking lots.. Bioswales and rain gardens conserve water, preserve water quality, improve natural habitats, promote biodiversity, and reduce damage from flooding.
