Introducing Students to Land Use & Community Development through Project-Based Learning

Now more than ever, teachers are looking for engaging new content that works in-person and online to capture students’ undivided attention. With UrbanPlan, students learn how neighborhoods get built and see inside the complex considerations that go into every street corner. Then, they’ll put that knowledge into action, working side-by-side to reshape a neighborhood!

Outcomes

  • Creates engaged and informed citizens who better understand communities where they live
  • Enriches academics through project-based learning
  • Promotes careers in the built environment and commercial real estate.
  • Develops twenty-first century skills, such as critical thinking and working in a team.

Bring UrbanPlan to Your School

As a teacher, you have a lot to teach and a limited time to teach it. We get it. That’s why this program packs so much information and skills building into the unit while making it flexible to fit your school’s unique needs. UrbanPlan can be delivered as a full-day workshop as an in-school field trip or over 15 class hours when it is incorporated into a course.

UrbanPlan has been integrated into economics, government, and geography classes and also works well for business, leadership, and design courses. The unit is primarily designed for 16 to 18 year olds, but has successfully been delivered to grade 9 and 10 students as well.

For more information about the program and how to enhance your curriculum with UrbanPlan, check to see if UrbanPlan is already offered near you.
